The Heritage Railway Association represents the majority of heritage and tourist railways, tramways and railway preservation groups within both the U.K and Ireland.

Friends of the HRA

Although the Heritage Railway Association is primarily a trade association for Heritage and Tourist railways and railway preservation groups etc, individuals who have a general interest in railway preservation are most welcome to join as a Friend by the payment of an annual subscription, which is £17.25 (incl VAT). The membership year runs until the end of February. 

Benefits of Membership as a Friend include:

Copies of Sidelines and Broadlines newsletters (issued ever two months) plus a copy of the Annual report.

The opportunity to purchase an Inter-Rail Pass which for is currently priced at £60 for a one person pass. This allows free or reduced price travel on over 80 participating railways, steam centres and museums, except on gala and special days (other restrictions may apply). Passes are valid for 12 months from 1st March.
Access to the members' only section of the HRA web site.

The opportunity to attend all meetings and seminars organised by the Association. There are three weekend meetings a year - the AGM which is normally held in January /February - and summer (usually June) and autumn (usually Sept) meetings which are usually held at a member Railway and include visits to various places of railway interest. There are also two midweek meetings, usually in March and November. There are also occasional Seminars on topics of interest or concern to members.

The opportunity to assist the Association in its work - particularly by manning sales and publicity stands at exhibitions and open days. If you have specialist skills you may be able to share this expertise as an Adviser.
